Eek, what happened to September?

The last day of summer vacation is here, and it even feels like Fall; it's about seventy-five and sunny, and the breeze makes me think of the northeast. I've gotten all of my work done for the start of the quarter, so I spent the last few days painting a few pictures; I haven't worked with watercolors since I was about eight (does that count?) so this is a pretty hilarious experience for me. Here's a picture of pooh-bear I painted.

I got a few things done over the break; these included:

• revising my own portfolio and my portfolio website
• working with Bill to write and launch the CfP for CHI2007
• completing the proposal for the M.Des in Interaction Design
• finishing most of the editing process of my book, and starting a company to publish it (it really is ridiculously easy to start a company, although I'm not looking forward to filing my taxes this year)
• writing a PHP/AJAX scheduler for classes, and concluding that AJAX is no cooler than what we were doing at Trilogy in 1999
• writing most of an article for Artifact
• finishing the giant gourd growing on my arm

It was a pretty productive break, but I’m about done with vacation. I'm teaching two interaction classes tomorrow, and then two full industrial design classes on Thursday, and I look forward to learning a great deal this quarter.

Here are some more pictures from our trip to Rochester.

Jess and I just got back from our trip to New England; we drove to Pittsburgh, visited her parents, went through Rochester, and then came on back to Savannah. The twelve hours wasn't too bad, and it was wildly relaxing to be without internet and around people I've known for so long. It just felt regular.
