The weekend has gone by quickly, primarily filled with the Filling Out Of Forms. I'm proposing a new course of study - a graduate program in Interaction Design - and in addition to the ridiculously long document I've written to justify the need for something like this, I also get to fill out about a zillion forms that all cross-reference each other.

I'm also preparing for the ZIBA visit next week, which should be quite informative; we've arranged for the Directors of both Interaction and Industrial Design to come down and visit, and do a bit of portfolio reviewing as well.

Carla was also visiting Mike, so J and I took some time to Drink Beer with them.

And here they are:

Burton S. Kolko, 1939 - 2005. In memorial.

My uncle died today. He was 66 years old. He battled cancer, and while the disease may have claimed his life, it certainly didn't win.

Uncle Burt went to baseball games with me when I was small, and was the judge at my wedding, and was in my thoughts each holiday season - even when I stopped considering the holidays themselves. I saw Uncle Burt during my trip to Washington. He looked thin, and pale, but he was still the same Uncle: he Said Things With Authority, and he Knew A Great Deal, and he was genuinely Happy To See Me.

These are the things that I remember about my Uncle; the warmth of his smile, and the scope of his passions, and breadth of his curiosity. He found links between whatever I happened to be doing, or interested in, and with his life, and his pursuits, and his love of film, and his awareness of politics. These are the things that have made him one of my favorite members of my family; and these are the memories that I will never forget, as they have helped shape who I am today.

The weather has been absolutely stunning, and is setting a nice fall scene for Going Back To School. Although it still gets up to about 90 in the daytime, it has been a beautiful mid seventies in the evening and the sunshine is orange, liquid and heartwarming.

a nice day

J's parents come in today, and we'll spend some time enjoying the lazy end of summer vibe in the air; I start classes on Wednesday, and have meetings all day Monday and Tuesday. Summer is long, very long, and then .. over. I have no grasp on time, none at all.

Yesterday was the first I've really felt on vacation this entire summer break; not just 'on vacation', but actually relaxed. Jess and I spent the entire day sitting on the porch, reading and enjoying the first hints of fall. It was about eighty degrees, with a relaxing and lazy bit of wind, and I made Indian Food. The cat came and visited, and then went back upstairs to lay around.

I took a picture of a butterfly. It reminded me of Jess.

butterfly

It was a good day.
