Ran into Carla today at the building - she's taking Bob's rendering class! - and she mentioned her trip to SXSW coming up; she mentioned that Leslie may be going with her. What a trip if they connected with Petro and Ashley! .. Makes me reminisce a bit about Austin; I wouldn't go so far as to say I miss it, but I certainly think about aspects of it; that drive to Trilogy, down Bee Caves and onto 360 and then into the sunrise .. Ah, those 110 hour weeks .. :D
Excellent discussion in Information Architecture yesterday, this time focused around Wurman's reiteration of the DIKW hierarchy, with an emphasis on the importance of visualization techniques to push the viewer towards wisdom. Interesting to note the connections between disciplines, as TS Eliot is cited as being the author of the hierarchy in the first place:
Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?
Interesting to note the relationships between Dieter Rams' top ten design essentials with what, perhaps, makes good information design; again and again I see the importance of grounding information architecture within the field of product or spatial design, as the lines between product and interface completely disintegrate ..
